Brief Biography

Before starting a career in the healthcare industry in 2002, Zoran received numerous awards for leading change, increasing customer satisfaction and delivering breakthrough results in complex work environments within the aerospace, pharmaceutical, and petrochemical industries. As a member of the senior leadership team, he performed corporate management system audits, led interprofessional teams and improved processes at manufacturing and service facilities across the United States and Canada. Zoran received a Master of Health Science degree from the University of Toronto and Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Safety Engineering from the University of Tuzla. His professional qualifications also include Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), Certified Lean Agent (CLA), Certified ASQ Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (ASQ-CMQOE), Quality Management System (QMS) Lead Auditor, and IQMH Accreditation Program Assessor.

Zoran develops, implements and evaluates integrated business strategies to improve quality of patient care, stimulate innovation, create a culture of safety, and increase organizational agility, capability and capacity for rapid transformational change. He leads strategically important quality improvement projects, identifies and eliminates the sources of waste and streamlines value-creating activities across organizational boundaries. He applies Human Factors Engineering concepts and principles to eliminate preventable harm, enhance patient experience and design robust systems that are resilient to failures and human errors. Zoran fosters collaboration with the broader clinical, education and research community, supports methodical integration of artificial intelligence (AI), enables knowledge translation, and facilitates generation and adoption of new ideas by linking innovation to clinical operations. He applies a proactive, synchronized and systematic approach to risk management, promotes patient and family-centered care and continually improves patient safety by implementing evidence-based infection prevention and control (IPC) practices. Zoran designs systems and processes to ensure seamless flow of information, enable advanced data analytics and convert complex data into meaningful business intelligence. He fosters positive, inclusive and engaging work environment conducive to teamwork, provides coaching and mentoring to staff and creates opportunities for learning, personal growth and career development. He provides numerous academic contributions including the design, development and delivery of continuing education courses and training programs, scientific posters, educational exhibits, and presentations at national and international conferences. Zoran has also authored two textbooks for the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) Continuing Professional Development Program: Fundamentals of Quality Management and Human Factors in Patient Safety.

As the former President of the Registered Nurses Foundation of Ontario (RNFOO), Zoran provided leadership, strategic direction, oversight, and guidance for key activities of the Foundation to ensure its future relevance, credibility and financial viability. He developed overall business strategy, built collaborative governance structure and integrated organizational efforts to advance nursing practice, provide financial support for continuing education, enable nursing research, promote innovation, and support community health initiatives. Zoran worked closely with the RNFOO Board of Directors to set priorities, define investment strategy, establish portfolio objectives, evaluate risks, prepare annual budget, develop strategic partnerships, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Zoran also served on the Board of Directors of the Public Health Alumni Association (PHAA), promoted fellowship among the alumni community and helped foster growth and advancement in public health by advancing the values and supporting the academic mission of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) and the University of Toronto.
